By no means am I nearly as tapped into Cantopop, or the Hong Kong scene in general, as I wish I were, but sometimes, nobody else doing it is as good of a reason as any. Didn’t end up getting a chance to write about these tracks, but making this list has been a nice way of organizing my thoughts about Cantopop: there’s a sica song that sounds like Yoasobi but a bit more reserved, the Cheung twin sisters (not to be confused with the other twins, Janice and Jill Vidal, or the group Twins, who are not sisters) rule, and the top three—Terence Lam, dorothy, and AGA—are pretty firm to me even if the rest is more flexible. Here are my top 40 favourite Cantopop singles this year.
